Can I store my medication in work?
Yes, you can. And what we would advise is that you speak to somebody at work so that they can be stored safely. We've heard of people who have brought their IVF medication into the office in a sandwich box hidden away. And what we wanted for people to have that safe space to store medications, which quite often may need to be refrigerated.
How can I support my colleagues?
You can support your colleagues by simply being there for them. Ask how they are, listen to them empathize. You can also support them by being flexible, so covering their workload whilst they may need to attend an appointment and just looking out for them when they they may be struggling emotionally. The other thing you can do is be really mindful of potential triggers in the workplace as well that may cause upset to them and just give them a heads up if there's going to be a pregnancy announcement, someone bringing a baby into the office or a maternity collection that might come unexpected.
How do I offer support?
You can support them by simply being there by listening to them, asking how they are, and importantly, letting them lead so they may share with you that they're going through treatment. They may not want to give you an update every single time they see you, so just let them know that you're thinking of them and just say I'm here if you need me to talk to. It's also really important to let them know that you understand what they're going through. So simply saying I understand that must be really hard is much better than trying to give someone helpful advice or trying to fix it.. For them, quite often as humans, we have this intense need to want to try to make somebody feel better, but simply by being there, by listening and validating what they're going through, you can support them through this journey.
