What is post natal anxiety?

Postnatal anxiety is excessive worrying or prolonged feelings of anxiety following childbirth or adoption.

What are the symptoms of post natal anxiety?

For me, my postnatal anxiety really manifested as a racing heart and a tight chest. I was really overly worried about a lot of things when it came to my baby, and it affected my ability to do normal everyday things like leaving the house and getting out and about with my baby.

How do I know if I have post natal anxiety?

Okay, so the first thing I would say is to make sure that you speak to a healthcare professional. It can manifest differently for everybody, and it is normal to have some feelings of anxiety or anxious feelings after bringing a baby home. And it is very normal to have worries and to have changes in mood, but it's really important to speak to a professional to get that assessed. And for me, I had anxiety leaving the house with my baby, but I know of a friend that had anxiety being at home with her baby. So it really is different for everybody. But if you feel that what you are experiencing is affecting your day to day and what you would normally be able to do, that really is a time to speak to someone to find out more.
